This course will introduce attendees to the use of a dental endoscope as an aid to non-surgical periodontal and peri-implant therapy. The dental endoscope allows enhanced viewing of subgingival root and implant surfaces without opening the gingiva surgically, thus enabling the definitive treatment of many periodontal and peri-implant diseases while sparing tissue in esthetic zones. The limitations of different types of periodontal therapy for various cases will be discussed, as well as the benefits of using enhanced visualization as an adjunct to such treatments as scaling and root planing and laser osseous surgery. Course attendees will have the opportunity to practice operating a state-of-the-art dental endoscope on a typodont as a hands-on introduction to dental endoscope technology.
•Understand the rationale for using a dental endoscope when performing scaling and root planing, and peri-implant debridement
•Gain knowledge on the limitations of traditional blind scaling in closed periodontal pockets
•Learn what types of cases are particularly well suited for using a dental endoscope, and what cases are problematic
•Receive a hands-on experience using a state-of-the-art dental endoscope
