Mr. Austin has held key leadership roles in manufacturing and distribution companies in small business and Fortune 500 environments. He also has broad industry experience ranging from sports medical products, lightning location and data distribution, aerospace and automotive. Products he has engineered and designed include safety of flight components for military and commercial aircraft and the space shuttle. He transitioned an innovative and unique sports medical product from prototype to production and its entry into the marketplace resulting in injury prevention for thousands of athletes.
His leadership roles have included GM, VP, President, COO and CEO responsibilities in challenging business environments involving business turnaround, start-ups and rapid profitable growth. He is the author of “Motivational Model for Sales Engineers” and has served on the board of directors for domestic and foreign companies, including Météorage of Pau, France; Restorative Biosciences of Scottsdale and Rowpar Pharmaceutical. He received his Master’s degree in Management from the University of Redlands and his engineering degree from Northrop University.

Mr. Tian has led an impressive career in his experience in the medical device industry. Serving as the Director of Operations and Technology at OraVu, Haopeng Tian plays a major role in operations management, technology research & development, supply chain management, and customer support. Through his commitment to this role, his entrepreneurial instincts, combined with his technical capabilities has helped OraVu address start-up challenges. Also, Mr. Tianhas helped OraVu launch new product, and coordinate with overseas distributor.
Haopeng is a polyglot who proficient in English, Mandarin, Cantonese and Japanese. He is skilled in Data Structure, Probability Analysis, Supply Chain management, Analytics, and Optimization Analysis. Strong technology and business development professional with double majors in Bachelor of Science, BS - focused in Management Science and Math-Computer Science from University of California San Diego.

Professor Kennedy’s experience spans biomedical engineering research, project management and advanced technology application in industry. Mr. Kennedy’s expertise stems from spending the last 20+ years working in the field of engineering. His early career began working in various engineering design, testing and astronaut training capacities at NASA Johnson Space Center. After, Dr. Kennedy helped establish Silicon Valley office and operations of VI Technology, Inc., an independent consulting firm in automation and testing systems. Dr. Kennedy was the Co-founder, and CEO of the start-up company, Restorative Biosciences Inc., an early stage company that focused on developing anti-fouling, anti-inflammatory coatings and therapeutics for ophthalmic applications.
Dr. Kennedy is currently a Lecturer and Professor for the Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (TEM) Department in the Fulton School of Engineering at Arizona State University and former National Chair and Professor of Biomedical Engineering Technology at DeVry University. Prof. Kennedy served on national Association for Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) educational committee and the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) Academic Council. Dr. Kennedy holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in addition to master’s and doctorate degrees in Bioengineering from Arizona State University.

Michael Rethman, DDS, MS

Dr. Rethman is an internationally renowned periodontist, adjunct faculty at the University of Maryland and The Ohio State University, a former Director of the US Army Institute of Dental Research and is a Past-President of the American Academy of Periodontology. He also served 3 terms as Chair of the American Dental Association’s Council on Scientific Affairs. Dr. Rethman has authored dozens of important papers on oral diseases and treatments, including the periodontal diseases. In 2010, he co-authored an editorial in the Journal of Periodontology that called for the widespread adoption of minimally invasive periodontal therapies such as Visual Scaling and Root Planing.
Following a career as an Army periodontist, scientist, science manager and thought-leader, Dr. Rethman has worked for nearly twenty years as a consultant for numerous dental industrial firms. He has also served as a subject-matter expert in industrial, malpractice and administrative law proceedings. He reviews submissions for a number of professional journals. His spouse Jill Rethman is an internationally renowned dental hygienist, former President of the American Dental Hygienists’ Association and is the Editor-in-Chief of a major dental hygiene journal.

Gary C. Armitage, DDS, MS

Dr. Gary C. Armitage is the R. Earl Robinson Distinguished Professor of Periodontology at University of California San Francisco. He received his DDS in 1966, a Certificate in Periodontology in 1971, and an MS in Oral Biology in 1973, all from UCSF. Dr. Armitage has been a Clinical Associate at the National Institute of Dental & Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) in Bethesda, Maryland, a Visiting Research Scientist at the University of Michigan, and Visiting Professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. He has been President of the Periodontal Research Group of the International Association for Dental Research and has served as chair of the ADA Council on Scientific Affairs.
Dr. Armitage’s research interests are focused on the diagnosis, classification, and treatment of periodontal diseases. He has published over 90 papers and chapters and has given presentations to many research groups and periodontal societies throughout the United States, Europe, South America, and Asia. He has been awarded the coveted “Distinction in Teaching Award” by the Academic Senate of the University of California. Dr. Armitage is a Fellow of the American Academy of Periodontology, American College of Dentists, Academy of Dentistry International, Pierre Fauchard Academy, and is an Honorary Professor of the West China College of Stomatology (Sichuan University) and Peking University School of Stomatology. In 2000 he received the Gold Medal Award of the American Academy of Periodontology for his contributions to the field of periodontics.
